Cawsand Bay

Spent a couple of days relaxing in a large bay to the west of Plymouth main harbour. We still have very clear waters compared with the Solent and it's a novel experience to be able to see the anchor 5 metres down! Having said that, Cawsand Bay is a very deep anchorage which rapidly shelves to spiky rocks - we moved 3 times in 2 days to avoid hitting rocks and to get out of the deep water swell!

We are doing a lot of walking, though we still haven't got the folding bikes ashore yet - it's all a bit too hilly and steep for thoughts of cycling! On Sunday we explored the coastal path to the west, but gave up before we got to the headland, so only saw the odd glimpse of a seaview through the trees. On Monday we did better by heading east on the path, and got spectacular views out over Plymouth, the bay and out to sea. Pippin had a wonderful time chasing rabbits up and down almost vertical slopes - she was completely shattered by the time we got back to the boat and was very reluctant to stir herself for an evening walk. She'll probably be grateful for the rest she'll get on our trip to Fowey tomorrow!
